During a highly publicized summit conference with Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev in Poland, French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing did not secure any concessions on Afghanistan, but the meeting did manage to generate a great deal of criticism both domestically and internationally. Following over five hours of negotiations at the 17th-century Wilanow Palace outside of Warsaw, a French representative stated that the French and Soviet stances are “far apart and remain far apart.”

In the 1960s, he joined the newly-founded Novosti Press Agency (APN) and received recognition, including the World Press Photo Prize in 1963. He continued his career in photojournalism, becoming the dean of the Photojournalism Department at the Institute of Journalism in Moscow. Tarasevich’s work remains celebrated in the field of photography.
