Vintage Original B&W Photo, Marshal Konev in Prague After the City’s Liberation from German Troops – 1945

The offensive, which took place in tandem with the Prague uprising, played a crucial role in the liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945. One of the final battles of World War II in Europe, the assault continued following Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender on May 8–9. During the offensive, the USSR eventually liberated Prague. After the surrender, all of the German soldiers in Army Group Center (Heeresgruppe Mitte) and many in Army Group Ostmark (previously Army Group South) were either killed, captured, or turned over to the Allies.

This photograph is in very good condition, showing only slight signs of age and use. The photograph indeed has pinholes on all corners and a crease. These flaws may detract from the overall appeal and value of the photograph.

The photographer associated with Agence Novosti Presse is Vsevolod Sergeyevich Tarasevich (1919–1998). He was a renowned master of Soviet journalism known for his contributions to photography. Tarasevich began his career as a student photographer and later became a photo correspondent during World War II. In the 1960s, he joined the newly-founded Novosti Press Agency (APN) and received recognition, including the World Press Photo Prize in 1963. He continued his career in photojournalism, becoming the dean of the Photojournalism Department at the Institute of Journalism in Moscow. Tarasevich’s work remains celebrated in the field of photography.
