Vintage Original B&W Photo, the Metal-winged Il Fighter aircrafts -2M3 World War II – 1943

The camouflage is compatible with the 1943 Camouflage Template 1. The metal components of the fuselages and wings are much less contrasted, almost homogenous, yet the camouflage on the wings, stabilizer, and rear fuselage is crisp and repeated, most likely created by mask. The aircraft pictured here are metal-winged Il-2M3, but this particular puzzle-like variation of camouflage has also been seen on wooden-winged Il-2M3 and Il-2M built in the same factory, as well as on numerous Il-2KR (the observation variant built in the same factory, easily recognizable for the aerial mast located on the windshield); in addition, it is on the Il-2M3 restored for the Prague Museum that was built in Z.1, although it appears to bear inaccurate colors.
