On January 7, 1943, the Red Army High Command deployed three envoys and simultaneously proclaimed the terms of capitulation by airplanes and loudspeakers. Colonel-General of Artillery Voronov and Lieutenant-General Rokossovsky, who is in charge of the Don Front, signed the letter. Paulus was given generous terms to surrender by a low-level Soviet envoy party that included Major Aleksandr Smyslov, Captain Nikolay Dyatlenko, and a trumpet player. The terms included a guarantee of safety for all prisoners, medical care for the sick and wounded, the ability for prisoners to keep their personal belongings, “normal” food rations, and the ability to be repatriated to any country they chose after the war.The Germans were unable to get adequate supplies into the Axis forces that were stranded in the air because to Soviet intervention. Still, there were two more months of intense warfare. After more than five months of warfare, the German 6th Army ran out of food and ammunition on February 2, 1943, and became the first of Hitler’s field armies to surrender in World War II. In Russia, the triumph of the Soviet Union is celebrated on the Day of Military Honour.
