Vintage Original B&W Photo, a Reggae Musician Named Michael “Ibo” Cooper – 1973

Michael “Ibo” Cooper OD was a Jamaican reggae musician and music educator who lived from January 14, 1952, until October 12, 2023. He was a founder member of Third World, a reggae band, and a member of the pop group Inner Circle. Keyboardist Cooper and guitarist/cellist Steven “Cat” Coore founded Third World in 1973. Before joining Inner Circle’s original lineup in 1968, both had performed in the Kingston reggae scene and had received formal instruction at separate music schools managed by their mother and aunt, respectively, in Jamaica. They later left to start their own bands in 1973. They took lead singer Milton “Prilly” Hamilton and drummer Carl Barovier from Inner Circle.
