The First World War is in full swing in 1917. Since Julien is from Luxembourg, he can study piano in Paris rather than fighting in a war. He receives an invitation from his buddy Jacques, a musician who is currently serving as a fighter pilot on the front lines, to stay a few days in his family’s abandoned Bray home. Julien is allowed entry by the stunning but silent housekeeper, but he must wait for his companion because she is running late. Meanwhile, he begins to reminisce about his friend and Jacques’ love Odile’s pre-war days.
