Vintage Original B&W Photo, Mayakovskaya Station – 1938

Mayakovskaya is a Moscow Metro station located in the Tverskoy District in central Moscow. It is on the Zamoskvoretskaya Line. Both the design and the name allude to Futurism and its well-known Russian proponent, Vladimir Mayakovsky. One of the most well-known Metro stations worldwide, it is regarded as one of the most exquisite in the system and a superb example of Stalinist architecture from before World War II. It was utilized as a command post for Moscow’s anti-aircraft regiment during World War II and is most noted for its 34 ceiling mosaics that portray “24 Hours in the Land of the Soviets.”

The photograph is still in fair condition overall, retaining its vintage allure despite the signs of wear and tear.
