The Reichstag was viewed as the focal point and emblem of Nazi Germany. It was maybe Berlin’s most symbolic target. Because of the chaos caused by the struggle at the building, the events leading up to the flag-raising remain unclear. Stalin put a lot of pressure on 30 April to seize the building before 1 May, International Workers’ Day. At first, a number of big red flags dropped by two aircraft on the roof seemed to have caught on the destroyed dome. Furthermore, several information had reached the headquarters indicating that two parties, M. On April 30, M. Bondar of the 380th Rifle Regiment and Captain V. N. Makov of the 756th may have been able to raise a flag. Marshal G. K. Zhukov heard these reports and said in an announcement that his soldiers had taken control of the Reichstag and raised a flag.
