Vintage Original B&W Photo, Shakhtar Donetsk Stadium Olimpiyskiy, Kiev, Ukraine URSS – 1995

Situated in the Voroshylovskyi District of Donetsk, Ukraine’s Shcherbakov Central Park is home to the multipurpose Central Stadium Shakhtar. The stadium can accommodate 31,718 people. Up until the early 2000s, Shakhtar Stadium served as both Shakhtar Donetsk’s principal home field and a significant football stadium in Ukraine. A massive explosion occurred on October 15, 1995, shortly after the football match between Shakhtar and Tavriya began. Among the casualties were local criminal Akhat Bragin and his five men security detail, who all perished instantaneously. There were two thousand people in the stadium, but none of them were hurt. However, a buffet waitress was brought to the hospital in critical condition.
