Vintage Original B&W Photo, the 25th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1976

 2,650.00

From February 24 to March 5, 1976, Moscow hosted the Communist Party of the Soviet Union’s 25th Congress. Greetings were extended to 4,998 Soviet delegates as well as representatives from 96 other nations by General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev. Only Albania and the People’s Republic of China, which are both under communist government, did not send delegates. There were not many unexpected developments during the congress itself, which mostly focused on the political and economic landscape’s stability as well as the likelihood of future success. In spite of détente, Brezhnev promised to back national liberation movements and said the USSR would not invade or wage war on other nations. The core issues confronting the Soviet Union were largely ignored, including the deceleration in economic development and the poor yield of agriculture in spite of significant investment. Foreign Communists were the only ones to voice criticism. Georges Marchais, the head of the French Communist Party, disapproved of the Soviet Union’s repression of dissidents and skipped the convention.
