In contrast to the high-profile celebrations held in honor of the anniversary, Kyiv Day was not quickly established as a tradition. Only on May 31, 1987, the Ukrainian capital would observe its next holiday. Folk celebrations began in all of the city parks at 6 p.m. Khreshchatyk hosted the first carnival. Fireworks on the Dnipro hills marked the conclusion of the joyful program.
