Vintage Original B&W Photo, a French Musical Composer Named Michael Legrand – 1954

Michel Jean Legrand was a French musical composer, conductor, arranger, and jazz pianist who lived from 24 February 1932 until 26 January 2019 (pronounced [miʃɛl ləɡʁɑ̃]). Legrand was a very productive composer, having written many songs and more than 200 film and television themes. Legrand’s first Academy Award nominations were from his scores for two of the films directed by French New Wave filmmaker Jacques Demy: The Young Girls of Rochefort (1967) and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964). Legrand received two more Oscars for Summer of ’42 (1971) and Barbra Streisand’s Yentl (1983) after winning his first for the song “The Windmills of Your Mind” from The Thomas Crown Affair (1968).
