The Thief of Bagdad is a silent swashbuckler American movie from 1924 that stars Douglas Fairbanks and was written by Achmed Abdullah and Lotta Woods. It was directed by Raoul Walsh. It is a loose adaptation of One Thousand and One Nights that narrates the tale of a burglar who develops feelings for the Baghdad Caliph’s daughter. Thanks to its “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” designation, the Library of Congress chose the movie in 1996 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
