Vintage Original B&W Photo, a Theater Play called “Le trouvère” – 1981

Verdi altered the score of Le trouvère for the French debut, adding music for the ballet in act 3, which came after the soldiers’ chorus and included gypsies dancing to amuse them. Scholar Charles Osborne has observed that Verdi’s dance music is of exceptional quality. “He could have been the Tchaikovsky of Italian ballet,” he says, going on to describe it as “perfect ballet music.” Furthermore, he talks about Verdi’s unique technique of incorporating melodies from the gypsy chorus in Act 2 into ballet music for opera, which rarely has anything to do with the work’s themes.
