Vintage Original B&W Photo, Jean Rochefort in “Le diable dans la boîte” by Pierre Lary – 1977

While working as assistant director on Luis Buñuel’s 1973 film The Phantom of Liberty, director Pierre Lary got to know Jean Rochefort, who would eventually play the lead role in his film. Jean Rochefort enthusiastically accepts his offer of his film project, which he wants to name “La Boite” and which is about the working conditions of French executives. Pierre Lary views the film as political, but it will ultimately be dubbed “Le Devil in the box,” a reference to the rebellious care character that Jean Rochefort plays.
