Vintage Original B&W Photo, Parade before War, Moscow 1945

There were 200 captured German military standards and flags at the Moscow Victory Parade on June 24, 1945, which commemorated the defeat of Nazi Germany; the bulk of these came from the Wehrmacht. Flags (German: Fahnen) were larger and square, whereas standards (German: Standarten) were rectangular and had swallowtails. They were hurled to the steps of Lenin’s Mausoleum to a drumroll, led by a battalion of the NKVD’s Separate Operational Purpose Division. In 1935, most standards were created.

This photograph is in good condition, bearing minor signs of age and use. There may be light scratches, slight fading, or minor corner wear, but it retains a strong visual impact and historical value. Additionally, there are pinholes in every corner and small dents present.

The photographer associated with Agence Novosti Presse is Vsevolod Sergeyevich Tarasevich (1919–1998). He was a renowned master of Soviet journalism known for his contributions to photography. Tarasevich began his career as a student photographer and later became a photo correspondent during World War II. In the 1960s, he joined the newly-founded Novosti Press Agency (APN) and received recognition, including the World Press Photo Prize in 1963. He continued his career in photojournalism, becoming the dean of the Photojournalism Department at the Institute of Journalism in Moscow. Tarasevich’s work remains celebrated in the field of photography.
