West of Cahors, France, on the Lot River, the Pont Valentré is a six-span fortified stone arch bridge from the fourteenth century. It has evolved into the city’s emblem. Six Gothic arches and three square bridge towers were added between 1308 and 1378. Due to the Franco-English 100-year conflict, this bridge was first constructed.
Paul Gout completed a significant repair between 1867 and 1879.
In 1998, the bridge was designated as a World Heritage Site. Only people on foot may cross this bridge.
