Vintage Original B&W Photo, The Brontë Sisters painted by Branwell Brontë – 1834

 60.00

Anne, Emily, and Charlotte Brontë are the three well-known literary sisters, and this is the only group photo of them that has survived. The author Elizabeth Gaskell described the image after seeing it in 1853, which is how it came to be known. It was believed to be lost until 1914, when the Reverend A.B. Nicholls’ second wife, Charlotte Brontë’s spouse, found it folded up on top of a cabinet. A male figure that was previously hidden by a painted pillar can now be seen in the middle of the group; it is most likely a self-portrait of the artist, their brother Branwell Brontë.
