The silent Swallow demonstrates feats of strength, the sensual Salomé dances, and the Gypsy Lord performs magic tricks when the Caravana Rolidei arrives in town. A young accordion player begs to accompany Salomé because he is so taken with her. The accordionist and his expectant wife, Dasdô, join the group when the Gypsy Lord shrugs. As they travel far into the Amazon from the coast, television is their worst adversary. With Dasdô’s knowledge, Salomé allows the accordion player to share her bed once. He’s ecstatic. The accordionist then has to decide between seeing his wife as a prostitute and abandoning the caravan once Dasdô’s baby is born and the ensemble experiences financial ruin.
