August 5, 1901, saw the birth of Claude Autant-Lara in Luzarches, Val d’Oise. His mother Louise Lara was an actress from the Comédie-Française, and his father Édouard Autant was an architect. The theatrical arts were introduced to their son at a young age by the creators of the cultural association “Art et Action”. He was elected to the European Parliament in his late 80s as a member of the far-right French National Front, however controversy dogged his career.
