The Great October Revolution Monument was a Soviet monument that stood in Kiev, the capital of the Ukrainian SSR during its period as a member of the Soviet Union, on October Revolution Square (now Independence Square) from 1977 until 1991. Vladimir Lenin was carved out of red granite to resemble a granite pylon in the monument’s 8.9 m (29 ft) form. Four bronze statues of male and female laborers, peasants, and sailors, each standing 5.25 meters (17.2 feet) tall, were positioned in front of the pylon. The entire piece was situated atop a granite stylobate.
