Her family belonged to the working class. She was the oldest of fourteen children, her father being a stonecutter. Over a million copies of her 1966 breakthrough single, “Mon Credo,” were sold in France, making it a huge smash. Mathieu became well-known throughout the world very soon. She recorded numerous German songs, which helped her become particularly well-known in Germany. Mireille Mathieu still performs live and releases songs, and she has a devoted following. She has modified her approach to stay current in the ever evolving music business.
