Vintage Original B&W Photo, The Teacher Named “Louise Michel” – 1880

 35.00

In the Paris Commune, Louise Michel held a prominent role as a teacher. She adopted anarchism after being transported by prison to New Caledonia. After coming back to France, she became a well-known French anarchist and began giving speaking engagements all across the continent. Brian Doherty, a journalist, has referred to her as the “French grande dame of anarchy.” Her usage of a black flag at a protest in Paris in March 1883 was also the first instance of what would later be called the anarchy black flag.
