Vintage Original B&W Photo, War Trophy Moscow 1945

The standards were chosen from a group of over 900 banners and standards that were sent from Berlin and Dresden to Moscow. A portion of them were gathered by SMERSH trophy teams in May 1945, while others were removed from German museums (Adolf Hitler had ordered in 1944 that all military standards be transferred to museums, presumably to avoid being captured in combat). In the Battle of Berlin, the LSSAH banner staff was taken prisoner.

This photograph is in good condition, bearing minor signs of age and use. There may be light scratches, slight fading, or minor corner wear, but it retains a strong visual impact and historical value. Additionally, there are pinholes in every corner and small dents present.

The photographer associated with Agence Novosti Presse is Vsevolod Sergeyevich Tarasevich (1919–1998). He was a renowned master of Soviet journalism known for his contributions to photography. Tarasevich began his career as a student photographer and later became a photo correspondent during World War II. In the 1960s, he joined the newly-founded Novosti Press Agency (APN) and received recognition, including the World Press Photo Prize in 1963. He continued his career in photojournalism, becoming the dean of the Photojournalism Department at the Institute of Journalism in Moscow. Tarasevich’s work remains celebrated in the field of photography.
