Sixteen times between the end of 1918 and August 1920, ownership of Kyiv changed. Kyiv was designated as the capital of Soviet Ukraine in 1934. During the Soviet industrialization era, the city experienced another boom as a result of fast population growth and the establishment of numerous industrial giants, some of which are still in existence today.
