Leny Escudéro was a French singer, songwriter, and actor of Spanish descent who lived from 1932 to 2015. He hailed from a family of Spanish Republicans who escaped the Spanish Civil War and lived in France. He was born Joaquim Leny Escudero in Espinal, Navarre, Spain. His working-class upbringing and refugee experiences had a big impact on his political beliefs and musical taste. Beyond his musical career, Escudéro also made television and cinema appearances, adding to the cultural life of France. His influence endures as one of the major protest and sensitive voices in the French chanson genre. His extensive corpus of work, which continues to inspire artists and activists alike, was left behind after his death in 2015.
